TaxPayers’ Alliance responds to reports about the future of inheritance tax

For immediate release

Responding to reports that abolition of inheritance tax could be promised at the next election, John O’Connell chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said:

“Taxpayers would applaud any government who ditched the death tax.

“Inheritance tax is unfair, unpopular and immoral and has a detrimental impact on economic decision making through an endless list of exemptions.

“Ministers should scrap this duty now, rather than using it as a potentially meaningless manifesto pledge.”
