TaxPayers’ Alliance responds to reports Sunak will block licence fee increase

For immediate release

Responding to reports Rishi Sunak will block a nine per cent increase in the licence fee, Joe Ventre, digital campaign manager of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said:

“Taxpayers will welcome ministers stepping in to stop the BBC slapping a massive increase on the TV tax.

“The BBC is lurching from one crisis to another, but instead of focusing on getting its house in order it’s expecting even more money from hard-pressed Brits.

“If the Beeb wants to charge households more it should scrap the hated TV tax and let struggling families choose whether to pay.”
