TaxPayers’ Alliance responds to Sir Keir Starmer’s speech

For immediate release

Responding to Sir Keir Starmer’s speech marking four years since the 2019 election, John O’Connell, chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said:

“Starmer is right to talk of a hard road ahead, given the tax burden is still heading for a record high.

“Households are paying through the nose for a state that increasingly can’t do the basics, while struggling to keep pace with persistent inflation driven by excesses of a gluttonous government unable to put down their taxpayer-funded chequebook.

“If politicians want to lift the weight on working people, they have to abandon the moribund model of tax and spend and go for long-term sustainable growth.”
